A month has passed by. A month of seeing couples everywhere, of staring at the ceiling waiting for nights to turn into days. A month since I last heard your voice, since you got married.

I have no idea how we got here, how time passed by in the middle of nowhere. Emma eventually stopped asking about you, and I stopped seeing your face on others. My heart stopped jumping whenever there was a knock at the door. Somehow everything just settled down.

“This is the best dinner ever”, Emma gives me a blue-teethed grin and stuffs another spoon of blueberry ice-cream into her mouth. This is where we’ve spent most of our days, in this little rustic diner where the outside world has no effect. It’s so quiet and a bit mind numbing.

“Don’t think you’ll be having this for dinner when we get back home”, I say before leaning over the table to steal a piece of her desert. She immediately starts to protest, before her head snaps up in realization.

“We’re going home?”

Emma squeals and jumps off her chair before I have a chance to answer her. As she throws her arms around me I know I’ve made the right choice.

I’m done hiding. This is no way to live. I can handle seeing you with Frank, I have to.

Emma’s happy dance causes the table to wobble and the bowl of ice-cream to spill out all over. But we don’t care. We are going home.
